Curriculum & Quality First Teaching

We believe that all children should have access to a rich and broad curriculum where great teaching and confident reading are fundamental to enriching children’s lives. The curriculum in every Areté Learning Trust school must be at least as good as the national Curriculum but will be tailored in each school to reflect the context of the school, its unique identity and the needs of the community it serves. Areté Learning Trust schools collaborate to share curriculum knowledge and expertise and will choose to align practice in key curriculum areas in order to ensure excellence and equality across the Trust.

Across all Key Stages, students follow a carefully planned, aspirational and sequenced journey which continually builds on prior learning, providing an accumulation of fundamental knowledge and skills. Regular opportunities are taken for retrieval of prior knowledge, including low stakes quizzing, preparing students for not only examination success but also for lifelong learning so they can be successful adults in their chosen vocation. This is all underpinned by evidence-based principles and key educational research which ensures that the science of learning informs teacher delivery in every classroom.
